We raise big framed, hardy, healthy parasite resistant sheep. Excellent conformation, coats, feet. Ewes AND rams both have gentle temperaments. These sheep are well cared for but not pampered. Our winters can be tough. The sheep spend a lot of time out on rough rangeland. Post haying we switch them over to clean up the hay pivots. Winter we feed ranch raised high quality Grass/Alfafa hay. We don’t grain.
The ewes are heavy on VJ foundation breeding, solid classic breeding introduced by the late Vaughn Johnson. Agnew Ranch traditionally ran a couple big bands of Columbia/Targhee wool sheep, trailing them between our two ranches 19 miles apart. Sweet Grass County was known for its wool sheep. At one point the county shipped out the most wool in the world. But gradually as shearers retired many producers switched over to the hairs. They have quite delightful, playful temperaments, shedding their hair in the spring, slicking out to a smooth coat in early summer. They produce a leaner delicious meat. We raise colors and white. After years of white wool sheep we find the colors quite beautiful. We cho0se rams, for their temperament, conformation and breeding. We don’t tolerate aggressive rams or rams that sire aggression. We think you’ll like them!
